The Greater Accra Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organiser, Madam Felicia Mekpor Bortey has stated that the NDC government respects and works with women more than other  political parties.

She indicated that the party’s concern is to get more women in politics, partly for sake of gender balance and their immerse contribution in the development of this country.

According to her, this is one of the reasons why government is employing the services of qualified Ghanaian women to man leadership positions in the country. She describes the invectives hurledatwomen put in sensitive position at little or no provocation  as ‘senseless’.

Madam Felicia cited Mrs. Charlotte Osei, EC Boss; Madam Hanna Tetteh, Foreign Affairs Ministry; Harriet Brew-Oppong, Ministry of Justice and Attorney General; Madam Cecilia Johnson, Chairperson, Council of State; Madam Betty Mould Iddrissu former Attorney amongst others who continue to contribute  their quota to the development of this country

In an interview with The Gazette in Accra, the Greater Accra Regional NDC Women’s Organiser reiterated the statement that “what men can do, women can do even better,” “hence, it is not surprising President Mahama is appointing more competent women   into sensitive positions.”

To this end, Madam Felicia Bortey saidthat “no wonder most of the Ghanaian women are all over forming groups to canvass for more votes for ‘JM’ to retain the seat in addition to the various infrastructure developments across the length and breadth of country”.

But she was quick to add that for better coordination of these women groups the hierarchy of the NDC made Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Gender, Women and Children chairperson of a committee formed and her good-self as the convener in the Greater Accra Region to ensure their activities to canvass votes for the President Mahama are well coordinated.

Some of the groups she mentioned includes Market Women For Mahama, Dove Mahama Ladies, Zongo Women for Mahama, Lordina Ladies, Women For NDC amongst others are all over the country working to ensure President Mahama is retained.

Madam Felicia Bortey described the call by the NPP on Madam Lordina Mahama to tell Ghanaians where she (Lordina) gets money to run her NGO as ridiculous. She explained that Madam Lordina run her NGO way-back, and this (NPP) call was their usual diversionarytactics.

In addition, she said just as Akuffo-Addo’s wife, Madam Rebecca thinks she could support her husband by sharing food packaged in NPP colours at places, so is Madam Lordina Mahama, who is rather helping vulnerable people, hospitals and clinics with various medical equipments to save lives.

Madam Lordina’s NGO also contributes to the fight against breast cancer, HIV/AIDS as well as the fight against child trafficking.

However, the Greater Accra Regional NDC Women Organiser explained that first ladies have their roles toplay, but if they are refusing to know then the NPP mustfirst tell Madam Theresa Kufuor, wife of Agyekum Kufuor, to tell Ghanaians wheres he got the money she used in contributing to  nation building when she was the First Lady.

Madam Felicia Bortey charged the various women groups for JM not to vilify their opponents and engage in unnecessary arguments with anybody during their outreach campaign, since it is the penchant of the opposition NPP to trade insults and vilification.
